A Summer of Re-building

A couple of months have past, haven't they!  Where does the time go?  A member of my family pointed out that I have not updated my blog followers in quite some time....So here it goes:

The process of re-building after a fire is over-whelming, exciting, and sometimes frustrating -all at the same time.  Again, I am so grateful that it was our barn and not our house.  And, I have much greater empathy for the folks I meet with my part-time job, who've been through losing their home, and sometimes beloved pets or even a family member, to fire.  I certainly pray for each of them!

We are an on-going construction site this summer, but things are moving forward, thankfully, and we should have all the major projects buttoned up by early-September.  We took this time to reconfigure things, laying out our buildings in a more efficient way for what we do here.

The horses' new home is simple and neat.  They will be getting new fencing and a pasture seeding, yet, and my daughters will be laying out and organizing their tack and feed room when Rosie returns from PA soon.  We chose this simple design so that other animals could be comfy here, such as sheep or goats, eventually.

The sugar shack is adorable and functional! (Could even be turned into a little guest cabin if we ever get out of maple syrup production.)

In the coming months we'll be moving all the equipment into it and getting organized for the 2016 maple season.  We found a great deal on a 3-year old system, so we bought it.  We'll be making syrup and cream right here on our own farm once again! Yay!

And, as we speak, Don and Nate are working on our new pole barn, which will store the tractor, lawn equipment, tools and such.

My little veggie garden is doing wonderfully, and  two months ago, we built a butterfly garden!  All the new perennials seem to be doing well, and I'm looking forward to seeing this garden fill in, attracting many butterflies, bees and hummingbirds!

So there you have it!  Progress!  Can you imagine how different this place is going look?  Just wait until next spring when we paint the animal barn and sugar shack!  Hmmm....should we go with my favorite color - barn red??

Been traveling back and forth to Pennsylvania quite a bit, lately - actually, that's where I'm headed to in just a few days, to be reunited with Rosie who is horse training with my friend, Pam, this month.

Don't forget to contact us for all of your maple syrup needs.  And, watch for another blog update in August!
